Farmlay Eggs Wins Top Award
14th May 2009
Farmlay are proud to announce that they were awarded the title of ‘Poultry Producer of the Year Award’ at the nationwide Pig & Poultry Marketing Awards last week, at a ceremony in the Haymarket Hotel in London.
Farmlay employs 40 people at its premises in Strichen and is run by Robert and Ethel Chapman and their two children, Jennifer and Iain. Approximately 2 million eggs per week are processed at the site making Farmlay the second largest Scottish based egg packer.
The award, which was established last year, was open to all companies in the poultry sector so it is particularly satisfying to have represented the egg market so successfully in such a diverse area of agriculture.
We are extremely proud that the judges themselves noted the success of Farmlay’s strategy to sell top quality Scottish eggs at competitive prices. The unique selling point of being a truly Scottish company, supporting the local community and Scotland as a whole has been a strong one. Farmlay strives to continue to be a progressive business with a reputation for excellent customer service and competitive prices.
What the Judges had to say:
The judges felt Farmlay strongly promote the Scottish egg brand which they felt is key to building a successful and sustainable UK food business in the competitive global market. It is critical for all UK food production business to establish ways of promoting local produce and branding it to a level that reduces the threat of cheaper imports. The judges were impressed by the articulation of all the areas they have focussed on, as it is multifaceted and embraces most of the UK schemes available to their advantage, together with their exceptional growth of 80% in turnover in last 3 years; Introduction of supply chain management techniques to be competitive and minimise emissions; focus on exceeding EU standards not just meeting them; embracing the industry standard schemes such as BEIC Lion, RSPCA Freedom Food and OFG and their strong focus on corporate responsibilities regarding social and environmental concerns, such as renewable energy use and supporting local communities and industries where possible.
Robert Chapman said "We are extremely proud to have won such a prestigious award and take great pride in the company and the achievements of the last few years."
